BE STRONGER THAN YOUR EXCUSES
How often is one of your excuses — I am tired today.
Most likely at least once:)
Some days, I have used excuses like that more times than I can count 😂
As a wife and mother, it’s not uncommon for me to feel exhausted from everyday care. This is not because I don’t like doing everything required but simply because I have set many responsibilities and goals for myself and my family.
Would you agree that in this busy time, we lose our sense of being thankful, appreciating the little things, and striving to be closer to God?
FANNY CROSBY, WHO LOST HER SIGHT ENTIRELY AFTER BIRTH, TAUGHT ME A VALUABLE LESSON ABOUT BEING STRONGER THAN YOUR EXCUSES, WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE.
Her story is incredible, as her parents took her to a doctor who applied a mustard base ointment. It did not cure the affliction but damaged Fanny’s optic nerve, leaving her blind. Later, that doctor was discovered to be a fraud and banished from practicing medicine.
This catastrophe was a great tragedy, both for Fanny’s family and for this little girl. It is too hard to think what Fanny must have felt. Regardless, she became the most productive hymn writer in America and the world.
Fanny Crosby wrote over 9,000 hymns from her state of blindness. The most famous being “Blessed Assurance.” She became the first woman to speak in front of the U.S. Senate at 23.
Fanny’s refusal to make excuses for her potential limitations deeply inspired me as I read of the countless lives she has changed throughout her life.
Fanny didn’t make any excuses for her limitations. She did not allow her health condition to define the quality of her life, and that is the most important thing to learn in our busy lives and materialistic world.
In her story, apart from the great pain, I also see incredible endurance, love for God, and passion for life.
I WAS STUNNED WHEN I READ ONE OF FANNY CROSBY’S QUOTE:
“If I had a choice, I would still choose to remain blind…for when I die, the first face I will ever see will be the face of my blessed Saviour.”
I wouldn’t have said that.
These words make me think even more about the meaning of faith and how much we love God. For Fanny, blindness was not a punishment but one more reason for her to be closer to God and to do His will, no matter what the cost.
This woman is a true example of how strong our faith can be, and I pray that after reading this short story, your heart and mine will beat with new strength and love for God, people, and life.
Romans 14:12 states that we must take personal responsibility for our lives. God wants us to do what is right and will help us not make excuses if we ask Him to.
Many Blessings To You ❤️
