Fear is a big deal. It has the power to completely and effectively alter our decisions and life course. Because it holds so much power, it is so important to KNOW fear and identify which kind comes knocking on your door.

Society tends to make us think that fear is actually cowardice; that fear means weakness. If you think about it, denying ourselves fear means we wouldn’t recognize situations that are unsafe. If we had no fear we would essentially be disoriented without any kind of protective mechanism.

We have fear for a reason, but it needs to be checked and balanced.

Healthy fear causes us to look before crossing the road. Healthy fear tells us to buckle our seat belts before driving off. On the contrary, unhealthy fear will take the lead in our lives and cause us to stay back, when God intends us to move ahead.

In order to identify healthy and unhealthy fear, we must rely on the discernment that comes from the Holy Spirit. When we have the Holy Spirit in us we have the best guide to measure our fears. When we rely on His wisdom, we will know how to balance our life and our emotions, and the fear we experience will move us forward instead of hinder us. We become better followers of God, because even in the midst of our greatest fears we trust Him.

Identify your fears and use them to grow.

“For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
