 Love that Goes Beyond

Love that goes beyond ourselves is love that draws from strength above our own. It pushes us to continue, even when it’s hard.

This love shows up in our family, friends, ministry, work and church. Authentic love requires a lot of self-surrender, and is exhausting if we draw only from ourselves. It is wearisome and can bring you to a lonely place, and even get to the point when you just want to walk away.

Though it isn’t easy and is not always reciprocated, it is worth it all. Love that goes beyond ourselves cannot exist without first accepting the love of Christ. He loved us beyond the grave—a love so deep it provokes us to love in return and begin to pass it on to others.

If your own realization of His love is real, then you are capable of loving beyond your own strength. And guess what that will do? It will give you patience and endurance to love through anything, through any struggle or offense, through any disappointment or hardship.

The unfailing love of the Father will always give you the tenacity to love more than you ever knew possible.

“This is how we know that we live in Him and He in us: He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” 1 John 4:13-16
