Peace Be Still[vc_row][vc_column border_color=”” visibility=”” width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column border_color=”” visibility=”” width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]

The wind began to throw the waves against and over the boat. It began to fill with water. Panic spread amongst the disciples as the boat pitched back and forth. They all feared for their lives! Where was Jesus? He was asleep on a cushion at the back of the boat!

“…And they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing? And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:38-39

The disciples acted on their perception of the situation. They saw the rising waves, and the water threatening their boat. They let fear consume themselves so much that they doubted who was in their boat. “Do You not care?” they said, questioning Jesus.

Then Jesus, unmoved by the storm, calmly spoke peace and all was quiet. He had a much different perception of the reality they were in.

We live in a very imperfect world—we live in a fallen world. There is violence, pain, injustice, hatred, jealousy, greed, and so much more. It’s easy to look at the negative and ask Jesus, “Do You not care?”

He does care, and He doesn’t want you to forget He’s in your boat. When you see the world around you shaking, call on Jesus. When there is so much heartache tearing communities apart, call on Jesus. He will calm the storms if we bring Him into the situation!

He is the answer to the pain and the confusion—peace be still. He is the answer to the trials and the suffering—peace be still. We can search and shout and get angry about the realities we see, but the love of Christ is what will bring truth and peace and hope.

Peace be still. The reality of the love of Christ will clear the lenses of our false perceptions!

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
