There is a great secret to finding contentment in life. It begins with knowing that an attitude of thankfulness doesn’t just arrive on your doorstep one day, it must be intentional. It’s not the result of having more “things” in life; it’s choosing to be thankful for what you have.
We’re thankful for that new car until it begins to break down and needs repairs. We’re thankful for the roof over our heads until it begins to leak. Why do we lose our gratitude when things get tough? We have to change our mentality! There’s always more than one way to look at a situation. Finding happiness in “things” will only ever be short lived.
A thankful attitude doesn’t rely on things to operate, it is part of who you are and is birthed out of the strength of God. It finds purpose when things don’t go as we expect them to. It’s being thankful you have a roof to fix and a car to repair!
Paul said in Philippians 4:12, “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
Thankfulness shows up when we prepare room for it in our hearts and rely solely on God’s strength when we find ourselves with much or with little.
