The Weights in the Race

[vc_row][vc_column border_color=”” visibility=”” width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column border_color=”” visibility=”” width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” Hebrews 12:1

You wouldn’t expect an Olympian to run their final race with ankle weights and expect to win the gold. In the same way, Christians cannot expect to run God’s race with the weight of sin tied around them!

Sin has deceitful attraction and if we do not guard our hearts and minds we can so easily get caught in a sin trap that will keep us out of the winners circle. There are three main lies of sin that mislead us: sin is necessary, sin is validated because the world accepts it, sin is ok because I will ask for forgiveness later.

When we look to sin for our needs, justify our sins by the opinions of others or willingly walk into sin expecting to deal with it later, we are basically saying to God that we know better than He does, that He doesn’t truly mean what He says in His Word and that He is not the true source of our needs.

Standing against sin is not a popular choice but it is an act of faith and obedience to God! Shake off the weight of sin in your life by surrendering them to God and asking for forgiveness, and strive every day to live to honor Christ!
