The road ahead is clear and bright. You’ve got your focus set, and your goals are in sight. Windows down. Cool breeze. Then “crack!” You’ve hit a pothole.

These are the uncertainties, the unknowns in life that come out of nowhere and throw us off course. We can’t predict them and we don’t celebrate them, but we can’t escape them in life. These are defining moments, as they reveal who we really are and what is the most important to us. They, as some say, “squeeze us” and reveal truly what is within us.

So when you pull off the road to look at the damage, you really have two choices: keep driving and risk further damage or misalignment, or deal with the problem. You choose to accept or reject help as well.

It’s ok to stop everything else and take the time to adjust, mend, and refocus. Take the time you need to be ready to continue on down the road, and invite God’s help and guidance, as well as the support of those close to you.

Sometimes, potholes cause damage that we have to make modifications for. But take heart, because God’s hands are in it all. We must accept that things don’t always turn out the way we expect, but there are blessings along the way that never would have crossed our paths if not for the unexpected.

If you hit a pothole, cling to the wisdom that God is trying to show you through it all. Allow yourself to become realigned with His plan, and cherish the fact that He never leaves your side!

“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me.”
Psalm 23:1-4
